Drought Worsening Across SW; W/Panhandle Olahoma Now In Level 4

ALBUQUERQUE – Drought is tightening its grip across a wide swath of the American Southwest as farmers, ranchers and water managers throughout the region brace for what’s expected to be more warm and dry weather through the spring.

The federal drought map released Thursday shows dry conditions intensifying across northern New Mexico and into southwestern Arizona.

On the southern high plains, Oklahoma is ground zero right now for the worst drought conditions in the United States.

Federal agriculture officials say crop conditions in some areas are declining. In New Mexico, about three-quarters of the winter wheat crop is in poor to very poor condition as meaningful moisture has been scarce.

If they had such maps in 1930, it would have looked just like this. n/t 5X Apr 2018 #1

If you want to see something scary, go to this link and see the dates March 1933 to March 1935 to watch the evolution of the dust bowl. What we're seeing now is just a normal drought in comparison.

History has told us countless times of the Dust Bowl, mostly talking about Oklahoma. but I see on the graph, the drought actually started in the north-central states and moved down to Okla/Texas.

The Kochs' Kansas is going to be hard hit also. In arrogant pursuit of personal power and wealth, they're practically the godfathers of global warming denial. Amazing.
