craft beer company has brewed up a brilliant idea.
Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach, Florida, has created edible six-pack rings that feed, rather than kill, marine life if the rings end up in the ocean and an animal happens to eat it. The rings are created from beer by-products during the brewing process such as barley and wheat and are completely safe for humans and fish to eat.
The rings are also 100 percent biodegradable and compostable, which just ups the products sustainability game.
The brand says that the innovative design is as resistant and efficient as plastic packaging. The only drawback is that edible six-pack rings are more expensive to produce. But the company hopes that customers will be willing to pay a little more in order to help the environment and animal life.

(8,175 posts)Now if they could make all the damned plastic tubs used to package food in the grocery store into something compostable/edible/recyleable (just because it is recycleable, doesn't mean your area will take it)...I hate the styrofoam meat trays, and the clear plastic salad tubs and dairy tubs and all of it. Some of it is recycleable now, but not nearly enough. Lets go back to waxed paper that is compostable...or burnable (turn it into energy).
And everyone...please invest a couple of bucks in the reusable cloth bags. Mine only cost $1 each at Fred Meyer. I do ask for paper bags sometimes, as I need those for something else...but I never take plastic bags if I can help it. I need to make my own net bags for produce too, but I don't have a sewing machine right now. It's on my list of important things to get. Soft plastic bags are recycleable, so I'm OK with them as long as they are recycled, but I still see too many hung up in fences and trees.
Why oh why are so many people so clueless about littering?
