Someone recommended it to me but I'm hesitant. I work in a pretty specialized field and don't want to be inundated with spam and nickle and dime jobs.

They are spammers, they take all your contacts and spam them with invites, most likely if you got a email from someone inviting you they probably don't even know it was sent with there name against it. this is a scummy site.
