i'm trying not to take it personally, but my firing was TOTALLY personal.
i do feel bad about taking unemployment but i will if only to make sure my bills get paid and that my kids are taken care of.

I wish I had wonderful advice, but right now all I can say is that that seems truly unjust. I believe there will be a better opportunity waiting for you - but ugh! I'll come back when I think of something better to say, but I just wanted to let you know - I read every word of your post and that's just not right. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

4. Focus on what you have to offer your new employer

Depending on what you do, and what you're applying for. Most private sector jobs want to know what you have to offer, and unfortunately do not usually care about anyone's record of accomplishment. After I got my Master's degree, I found that simply describing what I did came off as arrogant to others. I know it's counter-intuitive, and it made me very angry for years, but that's how it works, unfortunately. Look to the future, not the past. What skills do you have that nobody else has, and can it make the business money? That's all they care about.

I do not know much about university jobs. If you apply at a university again, I supposed your record of accomplishment would be more important. I've heard politics are tough in education.

5. I know....

I know how you feel minus the divorce and kids.... I was recently fired because I screwed up, because they overworked me and allowed my other coworkers to take complete advantage of me being there... I had moved away from my parents home, to a city an hour and half away. I can always move home, but the truth is there isn't a whole lot of jobs back home. So I decided to stay and took a job that pay minimum wage, and hoping to move up soon. Truth is there is no trick, just perseverance. I have a B.S in Psychology which is a BS degree due to you can't do jack with it, without getting graduate degrees... Keep your head up, don't be afraid to take the lower paying job it may work out to where you move up faster. In today's America you have to take what you can get or just let the world take you over. I hope the best for you, don't give up... Good Luck!!

8. In almost the same boat since last week.

I've been so stressed and sleep deprived, I can barely update my resume - last opened two computers ago (14 years). At least I have till year's end, so holy-shit panic is postponed.
