Being poor and FOMO

My cousin is visiting her friend in SLC. My other sister is seeing a concert in Dallas this weekend. I'm sitting at home, terrified abt needing 25-32k worth of dental work.

My life sucks and sometimes I wish I wasnt here.

You are here. We need you here.

Get the dental work a little at a time.

I have a BIL who made sure he stole or "inherited" most of his parents' estate. He started planning when he was still just a kid in his twenties. His wife is just as bad.

Don't give up.

I found a dentist; I bought an affordable policy that didn't have a waiting period for major procedures and I cut costs. I scheduled appointments. Three visit claims later on a treatment plan she said, "no can do the rest; you have bad BP -- go see your doctor before you come back." Equally scary costs involved; no insurance except Medicare A/B and a prescription plan; and no doctor; marital trust broken as well--but together we could cover food, shelter, and utilities. I've never been back to either doctor and dentist for anything. Knock on wood; fully vaxxed and boosted via the pharmacies; never had CoVid...Things are minimally better now...from time to time I think about trying to fix my disintegrating teeth again and/or fixing my 2002 car which is not driveable for want of a water pump, etc... Both, it seems, are financial fantasies. I'm white, uselessly and minimally degreed debt-free, but definitely not elite nor rich enough!

BTW, I think my sister did the same as your BIL. She and her spouse, my brother and parents had a fairly good reason for all the scheming, and many would think less of me should I say it plainly. I guess I was too naive and upset to see how it would play out at the time... I've had a hard time sorting it all out but have made a sort of peace with what happened via plausible excuse(s)?. Except for sis, all are now deceased. Well, the Fat Lady hasn't sung yet I guess but she's waiting in the wings and I'm gonna give her a hard time getting on stage!!! Gonna stick around to vote as long as I can...

2. You are not alone

I have felt similarly at different times in my life but have had my outlook changed often by small mundane things ( sun on my face, smell of a vanilla cupcake, a friendly dog in the park)...things that didn't solve my problems but took my attention over for just long enough to interrupt/ diffuse my anxiety and fears. I now purposely create opportunities for such experiences by routinely going for walks. Perhaps this may help you. Other people I know have different things to divert their train of thought... exercise, cooking, reading, drawing, etc. I hope you can find a thing that works for you to help you reset, refocus, revive.
As for the big problem if front of you, your dental care and expenses. We have taken advantage of dental school programs in our area ...1 hour away (wherein dental students learn on your teeth with supervision)for what would have been very expensive care. It was 1/5 the price and we were able to pay over time. We also looked into our county health services and they had options as well.
All this to say, you are not alone and there maybe options to help. I hope for the best for you...not because I know you and have a personal connection to you but because I don't know you but I realize that you are just like anybody else, worthy of help, consideration, respect, and friendly reminders of the options available and the importance of self care. BEST TO YOU!

I'm sure you've already looked into that.

Dental care is healthcare. I hate that it's not covered under standard insurance.

That's a real DISEASE. But since it's around the teeth, I guess it's only DENTAL and only dental insurance can cover it? (And it did... but only HALF. I was so mad.)

But there's hope! Joe's got a new plan for preventing famine in Gaza that doesn't include extractions, veneers, crowns or implants of teeth! Creepy Sen Britt is right, LOL -- when you really think about it, mostly everything bad happens first around the kitchen table...that's as far as I got w/her rebuttal to the SOTU, hehehe!

I had hoped he'd have found a way to add vision, dental, hearing to regi;ar Medicare for quality of senior life issues, but I'm still brushing/flossing to ward off any new infection going to my brain. Terrifying fear and trauma ensue...See, my teeth are really bad too--despite "innocent" best efforts.

In the meantime--gratitude! Many others in every nation around the world obviously have worse karma. Know you're not alone in your concerns and stop wishes that pop up and that are not helpful to maintaining good mental healthl - we need your vote!

I've felt that way. I was hospitalized for it. I have no income, but my other half does, though it's not enough. Hoping this second SSDI hearing gets me some relief.

I'm glad you're here.

Sending you love,

Rebecca
