And today, the United States faces an additional difficulty: restructuring will require people to move. But many Americans have lost a large fraction of their home equity a significant fraction have lost all of it. If they sell their current home, they won't have the money to make a down payment on a new one anywhere near of comparable size. Mobility, one of the hallmarks of America's past success, will be reduced.
