Dollar Tree tightens outlook as theft hits inventory

Dollar Tree (DLTR) shares fell sharply after the release of its second-quarter earnings. The company adjusted its profit outlook, citing higher labor costs, utility costs, and theft as driving forces that are hurting the company's bottom line. Yahoo Finance Live breaks down the story.

2. Theft at Dollar Tree is nothing new.

I worked there over 20 years ago, and the amount of theft then was astounding. I was shocked -- after all, everything was only a dollar!
And the amount of theft we saw was only that for which any packaging was left behind.
Who knows how many smaller items were lost that didn't have outer packaging to remove?

I don't know how much it impacted the end of year figures, as I didn't stay there that long.
But theft at Dollar Tree is not a new thing at all.
