Thread for violence against men

I am starting this thread as a place to post incidences of violence against men or general willful neglect. I was starting individual threads, but realized it is far too common to do it that way, so this is to put them all together.

Why is this an appropriate topic for the men's Group? Because I think it needs to be hammered home that men suffer (as well as gain) from the consideration of them as the "default". With men as the default, it means that violence is only viewed from the POV of a "gender discussion" if it is a woman.

But the men killed or brutalized are victimized as a result of their gender. For example, in this video, no one could reasonably argue that the homeless man is any more of a physical threat than an average sized woman -and yet, his "dangerousness" is used as an excuse for his execution.

What do you all think? Is this a "Men's Issue"?

3. Some do see violence against men as "no big deal".

There is also those who ignore or joke about violence against men when the aggressor is a woman or even a child. I don't think it has to be a competition, but has to be recognized as "violence is violence" because, let's be honest, people also 'joke' about "cat fights" (female on female violence) and mock it as funny or "hot." I have no problem with some jokes, but there have to be limits.

Deltona, Florida – Twenty six-year-old Derek Cruice was shot and killed by police in cold blood this Wednesday inside of his home on Maybrook Drive in Deltona.

Witnesses say that police were conducting a “no-knock” raid where they knocked down the door with a battering ram and entered the home with their weapons drawn. Friends who were inside the home told reporters that police fired their weapons without hesitation, and that it was blatantly obvious that Cruice was unarmed, as he was wearing basketball shorts and no shirt. The friends were also quick to point out that there were no weapons on the property at all.

Cruice was reportedly shot directly in the face by Deputy Todd Raible, and although the police claim that he “advanced” towards the officers, his friends said that this is an absolute lie.

“That is completely a lie. I was there; I watched the whole thing. There was no advancement. There was no reaching for anything. The guy was wearing basketball shorts like I am. It’s kind of hard to conceal anything or hide anything when this is all you have on,” roommate Steven Cochran told reporters.

Friends of Cruice said he is not a violent person, and that he was a great human being.

PHILADELPHIA (WJZ)– Philadelphia Police are investigating after a 21-year-old quadriplegic man was found in a wooded area covered in a blanket on Friday night.

Officials say the man may have been left on the ground in that park for five days— while his mother, 41-year-old Nyia Parler, visited a boyfriend here in Maryland. According to the Associated Press, an arrest warrant has been issued for Parler.

Not surprisingly, some DUers want to mitigate this.

is suggestive of the enormous amount of low-level physical abuse that goes on F>M all over.

...or a blunt instrument to the head. You also have both sexes getting beat or shot to death. Certainly women more often come out on the losing end for various reasons. The discredited idea that IPV is always one sided and male initiated needs to end. The way to decrease IPV starts with understanding it. Those who contribute to misunderstanding it are not doing either sex any favors.

19. Yes, and the "but men are stronger" is a major logical fallacy.

If men are stronger, then their violence should only be more unacceptable than a woman's IF and WHEN they use that extra percentage of strength.

That is IF the man is stronger, but in many cases, it is not true. There are incredibly strong women, trained women, elderly men, handicapped men, all sorts of situations that the overly simplistic "but men are stronger" does not cover.

Further, if the current statistics on domestic violence are to be believed, it is much more equal (i.e. both genders do it) than commonly recognized.

Three weeks after Vincent Viafore vanished during a kayak outing with Angelika Graswald 50 miles north of New York City, his body was found by a fisherman Saturday near the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, authorities said.

Graswald said she was unable to save Viafore, 46, when he capsized without a life jacket during their trip to scenic Bannerman Island. Graswald herself was rescued from the water by another boater and treated for hypothermia.

But the story soon took a startling turn. Less than two weeks later, Graswald, 35, was charged with murder. Prosecutors said she wanted out of their relationship — and to get her hands on $250,000 in life insurance.

"She felt trapped, and it was her only way out," Orange County Assistant District Attorney Julie Mohl said at a court hearing this month.

and then ask yourself if this would have happened to a woman. I don't have all the details of this shooting, so it's entirely possible the police were looking for an armed suspect that fit this man's description. However, even if that were the case, I just don't think you'd have a victim if they were looking for a female suspect and the situation was identical.

27. Ex-MLB star Darryl Hamilton, victim of murder/suicide

Before pulling the trigger to end her own life, Monica Jordan, the woman police suspect of killing former Mets outfielder and MLB Network analyst Darryl Hamilton on Father’s Day, made a panicked call to her ex-husband, asking him to call the police to come to her upscale Houston-area home.

Rohaven Richards then called 911, which brought police to 11506 Island Breeze St. in Shadow Creek Ranch, a high-end development, where they found Hamilton and Jordan dead, and their 14-month-old son, Jaxon Cameron Hamilton, alive in the house.

Police reportedly found Hamilton just inside the entry to the home. According to one Daily News source, Hamilton had just returned the son from a Father’s Day outing. The source also said Jordan may have left a suicide note.
