America Trembles! - the SEC Primary Begins March 1, 2016

Super Tuesday now includes in the South - Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia - and Colorado caucuses, Massachusetts, Minnesota caucuses, Oklahoma, and Vermont. After the dog-and-pony February "primaries" Super Tuesday could really seal the deal for candidates.

Even Democratic contenders would be advised to visit the Deep South early and often!

'SEC' or 'Waffle House' primary may give Alabama more clout

Gov. Bentley recently signed legislation that moves up Alabama's primary elections to March 1, the same day as six other Southern states.

Some are calling it the "SEC" primary, but others are calling it the "Waffle House" primary which may be more apropos.

The bill to move the date was actually bipartisan and, of course, both teams, ahem, parties and their play-offs, cough, primaries will be affected.

The theory guiding this change is based on the idea that bunching state primaries together on the same date gives candidates momentum in the polls, lets the media use more clichés like "Super Tuesday", and strongly influences primaries that are held at later dates in other states.

Some candidates may even try to yell a "Roll Tide!" or "War Eagle" with a New Hampshire accent. Of course, folks like Rick Perry may get confused and yell "Go Vols!" while visiting Birmingham, but we sorta expect that from him even if he is wearing glasses to try and look smarter these days.
