Biden Teams Up With Brazil's Lula On Workers' Rights Partnership
The two leaders will also hold a bilateral meeting at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday

President Joe Biden and Brazilian President Lula da Silva will announce the first initiative of its kind to advance workers’ rights around the world after their meeting Wednesday at the United Nations General Assembly.
The two leaders are launching the U.S.-Brazil Partnership for Workers’ Rights together because of their common vision for how the economy should work for workers, but they ultimately hope to expand the cooperation with additional partners, senior administration officials said in a background call with reporters.
They plan to use the initiative to address key challenges facing workers: ending worker exploitation, including forced and child labor; increasing accountability in public and private investments; the clean energy transition; technology and digital transitions including the gig economy; and tackling workplace discrimination, particularly for women, members of the LGBTQ+ community and marginalized racial and ethnic groups.
“It isn't just about principles,” a senior administration official said. “It is also about an actual agenda that we want to deliver real benefits to workers.”
