16 progressive members of Congress, sent a letter to the Trump administration, demanding an end to economic sanctions and to military threats against Venezuela. We speak to Rep. Ro Khanna, who led the initiative
Venezuela is a corrupt regime. Certainly shouldn't be any military threats against them, but sanctions are just fine. Most of the region agrees as does most of the world.
Not everything is "American imperialism."

(7,447 posts)We should defeat Trump of course, just like Venezuela should get rid of Maduro.
The difference is, our entire country isn't starving, and we don't have armed groups of Trump supporters roaming the streets harassing folks everywhere, and we have a free press, and a free opposition, and groceries with food, and you know, all that sorta stuff. We don't have millions of refugees in Canada and Mexico.
But hey, you keep on propping up the Maduro regime. You keep doing you.

(234 posts)I've not posted one word supporting the Maduro regime.
I do, however, post from a position of non-interventionism.
We don't like Russia/Putin interfering in our election/electoral politics, then how can you possibly support the US doing exactly that in/to Venezuela?
The height of hypocrisy.

(2,412 posts)You may be savvy enough to not to support Maduro by name. However, you can't help but sputter nothing but bile for anything OTHER than the Stalinists in Caracas.
Miguel M
(234 posts)I don't support US interventionism in Venezuela, just like I don't support Russian interventionism here.
I don't support those who are traitorous enough to support foreign intervention in their own country. I don't support the traitorous Trump crew who enabled Russia interfere here, just like I don't support Guaido's traitorous support for foreign intervention in Venezuela.

(16,881 posts)Really? Do you have any evidence for this?
Or is this just regurgitated imperialist propaganda?
Hint: Just because a minority of countries' governments cravenly toe the imperial line, doesn't mean the people do.

The Return of Otto Reich
JEFF COHEN
In totalitarian countries, government propaganda officers wield great power. Theyre authorized to use the media to stir up state-sanctioned passions and fears through the selective dissemination of information sometimes factual, sometimes phony.
If you think the United States has never employed propaganda officers, meet Otto Reich. He may soon be our countrys chief diplomat in Latin America if the Bush administration has its way.
In March, Bush announced his intention to nominate Reich as assistant secretary of state for the Western Hemisphere. If hes officially nominated, it will be interesting to see how journalists handle Reich because from 1983 through 1986, it was Reichs job to handle journalists. Thats when he commanded the State Departments Office of Public Diplomacy, whose main mission was to inflame fears about Nicaragua and its left-wing Sandinista government that had come to power by overthrowing a corrupt, U.S.-supported dictator.
By covertly disseminating intelligence leaks to journalists, Reich and the OPD sought to trump up a Nicaraguan threat, and to sanctify the U.S.-backed Contra guerrillas fighting Nicaraguas government as freedom fighters. The propaganda was aimed at influencing Congress to continue to fund the Contras.

You may remember that When Bush tried to ram Reich down the Senate's throats, they didn't go for it, and Bush had to get his way by slipping Reich into place through a recess appointment. That showed 'em.
And he is still engaged in LatAm relations even now, a nasty guy who will not go away.

Looks as if this criminal has been keeping busy, doesn't it?
Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll find out more about the training camp, etc. when the crisis levels out and there are fewer distractions.
