From Caracas, Prof. Aline Piva explains US coup attempt

Max Blumenthal and Ben Norton speak with Aline Piva, who lives and teaches in Caracas, Venezuela and explains what's really going on in the country, with a US-led coup attempt to install the right-wing opposition. We discuss the economic warfare and US sanctions on Venezuela, the daily life and problems, coup leader Juan Guaidó and the opposition's neoliberal politics, and the geopolitics of regime change against Nicolás Maduro.

1. I got as far as her blaming many of the shortages on hoarding...

she says the stores are doing OK, but no video of OK stores. And when asked what's happening on the streets, talks about 2016. And then she says shortages have gotten worse in Maduro's 2nd term.

Who is that Chavista on the wall?

Fake news? Everybody's propaganda machines are working overtime in Venezuela.

4. How is it that Max returned to his vehicle and it still had its battery?

And four tires? And motor oil?

The answer: Max was shopping in an extremely high end market (with covered, secure parking!) that caters to the enchufado class in Caracas.

You can be assured that the former "Chavez supporter class" wouldn't be allowed to even enter such a store (they have armed guards out front to keep out the riff-raff), and if they got in, they wouldn't be able to buy so much as a couple of craft beers with their monthly earnings. (16 cents per day)

Maybe since Max has it all figured out, he ought to run the economy for Maduro? He certainly couldn't do worse than the Castroist morons who have screwed it all up over the last 20 years.

In regards to the video. Jimmy Dore accuses the ENTIRE Democratic Party of being sociopaths. How is it that this video is embraced by Democrats?

Blumenthal does make that point in the video, but should have made it more strongly.

It sounds like he's based in wealthy East Caracas and even he rarely ventures out...

3. The Chavista sycophants are coming out of the walls to report on Venezuela

99% don't live there. I would estimate half have never been to Venezuela. Greg Palast, Max Blumenthal and a parade of other hucksters.

I would love to see the water carriers for Chavismo and the Bolivarian Socialists live there for even a month on the Venezuelan minimum wage of 16 cents per day.

If a person wanted to read about what is going on in Venezuela from actual Venezuelans (yet true believers in Chavismo), there are plenty of options that doesn't include agenda driven elitist Gringos in Caracas on holiday.

In regards to the Blumenthal video... if all of this stuff is available to the Venezuelan people... WHERE ARE ALL THE PEOPLE BUYING ALL THE STUFF IN THE WELL STOCKED SUPERMARKET?

6. Just learned something from the video I hadn't heard, which sounds so much like Bolsonaro.

(I'm in the process of listening to it, and had to stop at 7:37 to mention how filthy it was Bolsonaro has said publicly he believes Pinochet should have killed more people than he did. He's the first nazi I've heard to say that but it fits exactly with something else I heard, when he remarked someone else didn't kill enough. You remember he also praised the torturer who tortured President Rousseff when she was in prison.)

They've got a real nasty bunch called together to try to overthrow the peoples' choices in government, haven't they? It's been this way so long, but we ALL know in the end the good people are going to win. It is inevitable.

Back to the video.

Charge!!!!!!

7. peoples' choices in government?

What does that have to do with Venezuela?

Maduro won't allow free and open elections. 85% of the nation loathes him. Yet in his version of "elections" he wins in a landslide?

All of this nonsense with "coups" would just be academic is the Chavistas and their Cuban masters weren't solely focused on the Revolution, and instead on democracy.

9. I think you need to re-evaluate your stance Gato

For the most part, it appears this really has nothing to do with Venezuela. You could plug in whatever third-world shithole run by a dictator and the result would be the same. The suffering of the masses subjected to the shithole dictator's whims doesn't matter. What matters is that the imperial power wants the shithole's resources therefore the shithole's dictator must be an honorable man elected by the masses he rules.

In short, the shithole dictator loves his people, and they, him.

11. Finished listening to the video conversation with Prof. Aline Piva. Very enlightening.

Quite a few information bits brought to light which of course our own corporate "news" sources have intentionally ignored which would have cleared up so much of the confusion which seems to bog down so many US Americans who've been fed manipulated "news."

Yes, it most clearly has become a de facto blockade. Get ready for fascists to come galloping to bellow this ain't no "blockade." Happens every time. They seem to have such meager language skills at times.

It took me a little while to get on the right frequency with the Professor at first as I was unaccustomed to her accent, but once I focused I didn't notice it at all, and was so glad to be able to listen to her. The three of them were so thoughtful in taking the time to provide insight to people who just will not be hearing any of it from corporate stenographers.

The information landed some key points which make a large difference.

Thank you for this.
