Obituary - Efrain Rios Montt, ruthless dictator of Guatemala

Ruthless dictator of Guatemala

Born: June 16, 1926;

Died: April 1, 2018

EFRAIN Rios Montt, who has died aged 91, was a ruthless dictator who seized power in Guatemala in a 1982 coup and presided over one of the bloodiest periods of the country's civil war as soldiers waged a scorched-earth campaign to root out Marxist guerrillas.

A UN truth commission determined that some 245,000 people were killed or disappeared during Guatemala's 1960-1996 civil war, with the vast majority of the killings attributed to the army or pro-government paramilitary groups.

Tens of thousands of those deaths came during Rios Montt's 17-month rule.

Rios Montt was convicted in 2013 of genocide and crimes against humanity for the massacre of 1,771 indigenous Ixil Mayans by security forces under his command.

Efraín Ríos Montt and his friend, US Republican President Ronald Reagan, in better days (for them).

Seems like every time you get a government in South or Central America that is trying on some socialist policies in an effort to make their peoples' lives better, we come down there and support a coup that puts one of these evil people into power simply because they purport to be 'against communism.'

It isn't just Guatemala, either.

And it isn't just in this hemisphere.

And it isn't really 'democracy.' What we export is social, economic and military violence against any government perceived to be going against our business interests.

The history of US over and covert control of Latin American governments via corrupt right-wing racist, filthy undemocratic politicians who are power-mad enough to crave US backing, and willing to sell out the populations of their countries, rendering them to be cheap labor while US corporations pilfer the national resources and life's-blood of all manners of production, is long, filthy, and brutal, and it continues.

Anyone who takes the time to start researching the actual history for him/herself will start discovering that real history has absolutely nothing in common with the public perception molding which has passed as "reality" for the US American public.

Everyone has been duped from childhood. It takes people of conscience to start looking for the truth. Conscience, and actual good will toward the human race itself. Everyone incapable of the challenge will of course remain deeply up to his/her belt in manufactured propaganda, knowing as close to nothing as possible.

Same thing applies to the actual events regarding the millions of indigenous people who lived in the US at the time the Europeans murdered everyone in their way to seize their only homes, and destroy their lives, and destroy any chance of their futures.

It's just great to see your comments.

If the fascist dictators in the making here aren't stopped, how long before bodies start to appear on our streets?
