Russia Pays Tribute to Cuban Fallen in World War II
Moscow, Mar 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuban hero Aldo Vivo, fallen during the World War II (1941-1945), focused a solemn gala at the Culture House of Novo Piridelkino, on the outskirts of Moscow, the Cuban embassy in Russia stated today.
Aldo and his brother George were the only Cubans that took part in the Red Army in the resistance against the fascist blockade of Leningrad, researcher Nikolai Manuilov, vice president of the Russia-Cuba Friendship Society and head of its subsidiary in this region, explained.
The former died in December 1941 when the command to which he belonged tried to cross illegally the left bank of Neva River to take the language of the river.
His brother Jorge enlisted in July 1941 at a guerrilla brigade and in late that year was seriously wounded in his legs and hands when fought against the Hitler siege. He was evacuated towards Central Asia and died some years later, it was reported.
