Hillary Clinton tries speaking Welsh on The One Show

http://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-wales-41616972/hillary-clinton-tries-speaking-welsh-on-the-one-show

Hillary Clinton has often spoken of her Welsh ancestry - but on The One Show she was challenged to actually speak the language.

The former US secretary of state and 2016 American presidential candidate was appearing on the programme where she found out more about her Welsh roots.

A genealogist revealed Mrs Clinton is 31.2% Welsh.

Presenter Alex Jones then gave her a few phrases to try.

Note: This is the Welsh woman Alex Jones, not the batshit crazy Alex Jones.

It's just daunting when we look at that jumble of letters. Glad to know it's easier than it looks.

and Y is a little more tricky. When it's not the last sound it makes an "uh" or schwa sound. When it's at the end of word it makes and "ee" sound.

I've always been so curious about it. It just looks so weird that I'd never given it a chance. I'll see if I can find a website that has Welsh pronunciation.

Good on Hillary! Look at her.. she looks so good!

We could have had her "The People's President" instead of who the Russians wanted, and the other useful idiots who made trump happen.

I have Irish, Scottish, English, Ojibwa, and whatever else.. always been interested in Wales, too.

My former husband is part Welsh.. a real common name in Wales.

Glad I saw this.. So good and comforting..

Alex Jones: "..did you ever think he might be the right man for the job?"

Hillary: ".. No.." and then she went on to explain WHY.." Good stuff!

In Welsh Hillary said.. "Vote for Hillary in 2020!" Funny Alex! High Five! LOL

Hillary started Yoga again!

My grandmother was an Evans. I bet your former's husband's name must be Jones then if it's a common name in Wales.

Yep, she did quite well with her pronunciation!

My father was a native (he was an Evans), and although the language there is primarily English, he learned Welsh in school (rare to be taught it in his day; common today). He taught me a few words and phrases, but I certainly couldn't claim to speak the language. It can be a tongue-twister, depending on what you're saying.

Thanks for posting this. Hillary looked and sounded great!

amazing having another language in our homes when growing up. So much easier to learn than later in school. Though not much call for Welsh on the streets.

Diwrnod da=Good day!

So you and Hillary.. only you have more Welsh!

My mom was Hungarian and I actually spoke Hungarian as well as English as a child. God knows how my parents got together...an odd combination: Welsh and Hungarian!
