I saw a compelling argument suggesting the easy dismissal of the plagiarism is rooted in racism. nt fleabiscuit Jul 2016 #13

But I didn't think he and his people were as dumb as thinking they could steal a speech from Michelle Obama, read it at a national convention on TV and think no one would notice.

Really republicans?

6. Melania said that she "wrote" the speech herself

Which means she probably contributed to the speech. All of the political experts are saying that Trump should fire the speech writer to reduce the damage to his campaign and his wife, but why would a professional speech writer lift words from someone else's speech, especially the speech of Michelle Obama, something that is so easily checked. That doesn't make sense as an explanation

I think that controversial section might have been a part of the speech that Melania herself contributed which the speech writer didn't catch; that would make better sense because she might not understand how the media hates plagiarism. That would present a real problem. No professional speech writer is going to ruin his career by falling on his sword and admitting to plagiarism he/she didn't commit, so if Trump tries to fire someone for something he/she didn't do, he better expect some denials. The other possibility is that Trump could fire the speech writer for not catching Melania plagiarism, but that would be admitting his wife is guilty.

The question is can a speech writer's integrity and reputation be bought with Trump's millions. If the answer is "no", expect Trump to pull his usual stunt by doubling down and again pretending it didn't happen

that one of the Trump sons has been known to help write some parts of speeches.

Manafort is saying that there were only a couple of common words in the speech that were the same, so there was nothing wrong with the speech... it was a great speech.

far, Melania Trump plagiarized the "stupid" Obamas, Trump's motorcade had an accident taking him to the airport, their stage appears to be a giant toilet bowl, their moniker is "TP", their phallic logo was scrapped after massive mocking online, Kasich isn't bothering to appear, Tim Tebow wouldn't appear, Trump's daughter's rabbi bailed on his speaking obligation, Trump was caught flatfooted when it was pointed out that his running mate voted for the Iraq war and the interviewer laughed in his face at the hypocrisy and he came out on stage at the convention like "an extraterrestrial wrestling star".

And now we're at Day 2.

Edited to add: And it just came out that Melania Trump's "degree in architecture" was a lie, she never got a degree.

they just used common words and put them together exactly like the other speech. Absurd accusation.

I can't believe having to twist yourself into a pretzel and appearing like a lying idiot on TV everyday defending these clowns is worth any amount of money.

I just heard on CNN the the Trump campaign has put out a statement that no one will be fired over the plagiarism incident and they will not be addressing the situation further in the future. The easiest way out of this situation would have been for the campaign would be to blame a speech writer who was at fault and fire that person.

So since no one is to be fired I think this is an excellent indication it wasn't the speech writers who were at fault. You can't fire a professional speech writer and ruin his/her reputation and livelihood when that person isn't at fault without expecting that person publicly defending his/herself.

So if it wasn't the speech writer, that leaves only one option - it was Melania herself who lifted Michelle's words and inserted them into her speech and no one caught it. You also can't fire a speechwriter for not catching the plagiarism without admitting that Melania is the guilty party.

This is the only reasonable explanation why the campaign is "moving one".
