(660 posts)I'm sure that this isn't a very easy time for them. I still get disappointed when my candidate loses, but over 4 or 5 decades there have been so many of them that my attention returns to the future very quickly. There's no point in continuing to suffer.

(660 posts)There seem to be an awful lot of unhappy people out there. Some people are in a lot of pain and they seem to think that political events are the source of all their pain. That's very unhealthy and it's very unhealthy because none of us have much control over the political environment in which we live. I am just one of hundreds of millions of people in this country.
I think that it is much healthier to view the political environment much as we view the weather. I don't expect to be able to control the weather, but i can own a raincoat. In the same way, I can arrange my affairs so as not to be so dependent on political outcomes for my well-being. If I am taking care of myself, I can cheerfully try to make a contribution to our political system and then accept the results without too much suffering.
We have been granted the gift of life. We should appreciate and enjoy it.
So, I feel sorry for people who become bitter or miserable over political setbacks.

(58,785 posts)on line that we are all multifaceted people and that we are usually only seeing one facet, an extremely skewed view.
That said, the facet revealed of people who react nastily in political disappointment is not decent, and I don't believe it should be excused, either just for itself or as "normal" behavior. These people are represented on political forums in numbers far beyond their actual percentage of the population. And for most the current nastiness is merely the next stage of a very unworthy hostile aggression that has been displayed all year.

(15,438 posts)reasoning from its members. Those members are, indeed, radicals, and the Democratic Party has - thankfully - kept the radicals OUT of our Party, making only ONE mistake this time around with Sanders (a lesson they've learned from).
Radicals are ideologues. They're not interested in policy-making or helping the poor and downtrodden. Ideologues only believe in word-salads and being contrarians and insufferably argumentative. These types are sold on and only believe in the myth that the 'good' is truly the evil of the 'perfect', although 'perfect' is subjective there.
So I give them very little notice or credibility. Whereas people who have ideal ideas where a society should be headed, at some point they wake up and smell the coffee and get to work. That change doesn't happen with radicals/ideologues. These people carry their "perfect worldview" over in their protests, arguments, and their version of reality, but they have zero desire to actually see progress. It's all about the screaming, shouting, arguing, and perpetual theorizing for them, with little else.

(1,151 posts)They want a shortcut to being a good person, without putting in the work to BE a good person. It's despicable. I cannot stand people like that because it's so disingenuous and fake. Even if you have a radical ideology or viewpoint, the fact that one prioritizes purity over actually HELPING PEOPLE WHICH IS WHAT THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT makes me so angry and infuriated because I, THOUGHT it was about helping the downtrodden, I THOUGHT changing the system was for the sake of people who are struggling, but it's just stupid virtue signaling, just rich and privileged kids giving lip service to the issues that the people struggling and hurting in this world face just so they can puff themselves up and act like they did something when they did NOTHING because they refused to work with other people to get it done. Who the fuck gave them the right to decide that 50% wasn't "good enough"? Is it because they don't need the help, so they're only in it for the self-aggrandizement?
I bet you most of these BernieBros are going to vote Republican in 20 years, because their personalities are Republican. Selfish. Ego-driven. More concerned about looking good to others than doing what's right.
Sorry if I'm sounding too angry but, well, I am. I'm very sensitive about being taken advantage of.

It's mind-blowing how many other DU'ers have gone off the rails over Sanders.
IMO, the fact there was no moderating the behavior just allowed things to constantly escalate and created an atmosphere that normalized bullying and authoritarian behavior.

Go back about two years ago and I would sometimes post the exact same thing that sea posted - but drop the f-bomb from the post. Mine would stay. She also had me post a thread on white privilege - a kind of experiment. Something like 300 recs. Had she posted it - it would have received a hide.

How can you take these people seriously when their main weapon of attack is to use gutter language and name calling.
Frankly, I don't care what they do on that site. The only people they attract are similarly inclined neanderthals. At some point it will crash under it's own weight of the crap they spew.
I hope one day the more reasonable members of that sewer site look in a mirror and are ashamed of the image looking back at them.
