Fri May 27, 2016, 09:47 PM
May 2016

is that he's been really tough on guns, unlike someone else. Who's the real progressive?

In April 2013, he signed into law a bill that passed the legislature with bipartisan support and required universal background checks, banned magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds, created the country's first registry for dangerous-weapon offenders and added over 100 types of gun to the state's assault weapons ban.

In December 2015, Malloy announced he would issue an executive order to prohibit anyone on federal terrorist watchlists (such as the No Fly List) from obtaining the permits required to acquire firearms in Connecticut.[63] The executive order would also revoke existing permits for people on such lists.[

This was clearly the intent all along. He was never in it to win. He was in it because he has an inflated sense of purpose and he thought he could reshape the party in his image.

Meanwhile, he's getting blown out and acting like he won the whole thing.

I think he's sold himself so completely on the idea that he's the savior of the universe that it's influencing everything he does. Meanwhile, nothing is ever his fault, so everyone is plotting against him. This complaint makes that abundantly clear.

I really, really used to like this guy. I clearly had no idea who he really was.

The joke is on us, because most of his voters are not even Democrats and likely will sit out before voting for Hillary.

Dem nomination for POTUS?

I'm beginning to worry that he'll do something REALLY drastic. I know losing is difficult (Was for Hillary Clinton in 2008 and then Senator Barack Obama won the Dem nomination for POTUS), but he and his camp are getting quite desperate.

As someone said, maybe Pres. Obama will have to talk to him IF he does make a stink about losing the Dem nomination, which he is on course to.

... of the Bernie fiasco, it will be a cold day in hell before the Party ever agrees to allow a non-Dem to run on our ticket again. Lesson learned - if nothing else.

It's hard to remember that just a year ago, Bernie was lauded as the sincere, self-effacing gentleman who would never run a negative campaign, and only ran because he wants what is best for his fellow citizens.

And here we are, twelve months later, and Bernie has now proven himself to be what he's always been - an ego-driven shit-disturber whose only interest is himself, and his desperate attempt to cling to his fifteen minutes of fame.

We have no way of ever knowing, but I wonder how many people who voted for that "sweet old man, pure of heart and spirit" in the early primary states would vote for him now, now that the mask has dropped.

At this point, I'd be happy to see security drag Bernie off the Convention floor, kicking and screaming, if he even opens his mouth. (OK - that's my personal little fantasy!)

Despicable man, disgusting behaviour - Bernie is a little pissant devoid of any principles whatsoever.

Fuck 'im.

The Party got punked - and so did the BS supporters who insisted that once people heard Bernie's "message", they would flock to his side.

Again, I can't help but wonder how many of his initial supporters would have voted for him, had they foreseen who he would turn out to be.

Sanders is delusional to think he will be able to shut down the Convention. Most of the delegates wouldn't have a clue of what they can do or not do as many of them are newbies. And Sanders' delegates or part of his team that tries anything are likely to find themselves outflanked through the rules.

I'm not a fan of Debbie Wasserman Schultz but I don't consider having her removed something that needs to be done at this time. Especially now! It can wait until after the election because her term will be up and she won't be standing for another term. With that, DWS should lay the law down with Sanders. She needs to be backed up by the Senators who can use a lot of clout to shut him down.

96. Sanders adviser: Barney Frank hit Sanders’ capacity, age
Fri May 27, 2016, 10:22 PM
May 2016

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2016/04/12/sanders-adviser-barney-frank-hit-sanders-capacity-age/82947832/

A top adviser to Bernie Sanders says former congressman Barney Frank shouldn’t have a leadership role in the 2016 Democratic convention after carrying out an ageist attack against Sanders.

Tad Devine, Sanders’ senior adviser, said Frank is among surrogates for Hillary Clinton who used Sanders’ remarks to a NY Daily News editorial board on April 1 to promote a story line that questions Sanders’ capacity to be president.

Devine pointed to Frank’s April 6 statements on MSNBC that Sanders “confused several things” in his responses to questions about his core issue of breaking up big banks. Frank also said Sanders’ responses to the editorial board were not “coherent.”

“These are remarks that do not speak merely to the substance of policy proposals but speak to his capacity and obviously his age,” Devine said Monday of Sanders. “I think they’re trying to suggest that he does not have the capacity to be president of the United States. That is part of their attack on his qualifications."

Devine’s remarks follow suggestions that Sanders was sexist in saying Clinton was unqualified to be president, a charge Sanders made — and later walked back — after Clinton wouldn’t answer whether Sanders was qualified.

Devine stood by his criticism after being reminded that Frank is two years older than Sanders. Frank is 76 and Sanders is 74.

He said Frank’s comments are the manifestation of Clinton’s strategy after his April 5 win in Wisconsin to disqualify Sanders. And he has concerns about Frank serving as co-chairman of the convention’s rules committee in July. Frank was appointed to the position by Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

“At the appropriate point in time, we will raise objection to it,” he said, adding that he is expressing his own concerns. “The people who are going to chair these committees for the convention need to be people who are not engaged in that level of partisanship.”

Responding on Tuesday, Frank said it would be “stupid” and baffling” to think that age played a role in his criticism of Sanders.

“How many 76-year-olds do you know who would like to imply that a 74-year-old is too old to do something?” he asked. “I’m two years older than Senator Sanders! That would lead me to question Mr. Devine’s qualifications for having a rational debate.”

Frank said he expects Clinton to secure a clear majority of delegates, but he will step aside from his rules committee co-chairmanship if the nomination is uncertain in June and a rules interpretation could be the deciding factor.

“I understand the perception problem,” he said. “I don’t insist that everyone in the world have the same confidence in my judgment that I do.”

Frank, co-author of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law, has long criticized Sanders. In July, he wrote a column for Politico, “Why Progressives shouldn’t support Bernie,” arguing that a long primary would undermine Clinton’s general election chances.

Frank said he has never suggested that Sanders is unqualified to be president, but he disagrees with his approach to politics.

“I think he has been too rigid and his record in 26 years in Congress is not one that leads to getting things done,” he said. “The people most committed to change in Congress who have served with both him and Hillary Clinton are overwhelmingly for Hillary
Clinton. Senator Sanders position has been to state what he believes is the ideal but I don’t think he can effectively advance it.”

I read the letter and it is very petty and sad. Barney Frank is a meanie and hurt Sanders' feelings. Governor Malloy is an effective advocate for Clinton and so is also a meanie. Both Frank and Malloy are qualified but Sanders thinks that they are meanies and should not serve. Give me a break.

I used to like Sanders but I have lost all respect for Sanders. This letter is so petty and sad that it is clear that Sanders is not qualified to be the Democratic nominee.

I am running to be a national delegate and I will be happy to fight the petty tactics that the Sanders campaign threatens to use at the National Convention

I was watching some reporters earlier on MSNBC tonight, don't know who they were, but they said there was no indication from BS or his staff that he actually plans to campaign/endorse/act as surrogate for Hillary. They went on to discuss the fact he is raising money for 12 congressional candidates who are running against incumbent Democrats. He is focused on incumbents and not on gaining seats. Appears he is using the Tea Party play book.

I would have never said one critical word about Bernie Sanders if he and his followers had played fair from the beginning, had not whined about "the system being rigged against them," had not bitten the hand that feeds them, had respected the rules, and had not condoned sending emails, tweets, and voice mails full of lewd language and death threats to Democratic women who dared to support Hillary. Instead we have an upcoming clusterbomb of a National Convention courtesy of Bernard Sanders and his minions and they are working as hard as they can to make it so.

He is already wreaking havoc with down ballot races and may cause us to lose several seats with his Teaparty style instructions to his followers to "primary" Democrats running for office this year.

Roosevelt and Miller responded Saturday in a letter to the Sanders campaign. The co-chairs of the Rules and Bylaws Committee said Malloy and Frank hadn't violated any rule of the DNC.

"Both Governor Malloy and Representative Frank were elected by the Executive Committee of the Democratic National Committee on January 22, 2016, pursuant to the Call for the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Article VII(F)(I)(the "Call&quot ," the chairs wrote in response. "Your challenge does not allege that there was any other cognizable violation of the Call in the conduct of their elections, the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2016 Democratic National Convention, or any other rule or regulation of the Democratic National Committee in their selection."

Frank is not amused http://www.politico.com/blogs/2016-dem-primary-live-updates-and-results/2016/05/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-convention-allies-223685

Frank brushed off the Sanders camp's charges.

"It is inconceivable to me that anything could come before that committee that will affect who the nominee is," Frank said. "I think what you have here is this: Sanders is losing to Hillary Clinton because she is getting many more votes and many more pledged delegates. Some of the Sanders supporters are trying to lay the claim that he's being unfairly deprived of this."

Asked what he thought Sanders' endgame goal was, Frank said it might be to suggest he was robbed of the nomination.

"I hope it is not to lay the basis for an inaccurate claim that he was unfairly denied the nomination and I do see some elements of this," Frank said. "We really had two nomination contests this year. Bernie Sanders is the nominee of the caucuses; Hillary Clinton is the nominee of the primaries, which are more Democratic."
