State Dept. Audit Faults Hillary Clinton in Emails
Source: ABC
A State Department audit has faulted Hillary Clinton and previous secretaries of state for poorly managing email and other computer information and slowly responding to new cybersecurity risks.
The Associated Press obtained a copy of the report by the agency's inspector general Wednesday.
It cites "longstanding, systemic weaknesses" related to communications. These started before Clinton's appointment as secretary of state, but her failures were singled out as more serious.
The review came after revelations Clinton exclusively used a private email account and server while in office. Clinton is now the likely Democratic presidential nominee.

(15,438 posts)wonder why Hillary Clinton didn't want her e-mails going through State Dept where they've already hacked into?
The thing is, why is Hillary targeted for media crucifixion when she did nothing different than former Secretaries? Why is she singled out? These are the questions the media need to ask, not just parrot the narrative Republicans are feeding to them through leaks - which is nothing but dirty politics.
Yes, I'm aware that politics are dirty, but the media have a responsibility to point this out in context of this leaked, unofficial report. That's where the story really is.

The other Sec. of States should have as well.
The whole State dept. and the government as a whole should have cared more about how to use technology better.

I see a lot of people are getting all confused about the different things that are being ginned up about Hillary.
The Freedom of Info lawsuit by the Right-wingers, the FBI review of the security/ and this report.
All different. This report carries no weight legally.

Also pointed out by Bloomberg, these issues have been going on for a while previously to Clinton.
The DU haters will rant regardless, but when Hillary wins the nomination, and becomes the next president, their hatred will fade into obscurity, as some of them undoubtedly will

When will the FBI interview Condi Rice Colin Powell and others. Waiting.

I heard that one of the reasons that the office computers are not used so much is that they are notoriously slow and unreliable. Besides, a SOS is moving all the time and needs to keep in touch with key people constantly--a reason they prefer their own phones and use their servers at home when they are there, too.
Maybe things have improved, but I haven't heard.

(92,502 posts)a Democratic site. For a large part of President Obama's term, we have had some of the most disgusting and foul mouthed rants directed at him from some voices here.
Many of those same voices are doing the same thing to Hillary.
As far as I am concerned, Sanders and his campaign are trash.
This is NOT a criminal activity as some would like to portray, and there WILL BE NO INDICTMENT
My feelings toward Sanders and his campaign are identical to my feelings toward Trump and the republicans

(9,688 posts)I say this as someone who voted for HRC in the primary, who fervently wants her to get the Democratic nomination (and, yeah, I also have now developed a strong dislike for Bernie, Jane, and all his campaign staff, and I want Hillary to CREAM him in the upcoming primaries June 7), and who also fervently wants her to win the GE in November.
But, setting up a private email system for State business was just mind-bogglingly stupid.
How I wish that she and/or her staff could have thought this through better.
No, not criminal.
Looks like (thank goodness) no security breaches
And also there certainly was no malicious intent.
But her setup WAS at odds with clear Obama directive on email use and archiving of federal records. And, sorry, that was not OK, and, above all, it was stupid.
And, especially given the memes of "not trustworthy" and "entitlement" that always dog the Clintons (fairly or not), it just amazes me that they didn't think about the political consequences of insistence on setting up a special, private email system. To repeat myself, it was just a really, really stupid move in terms of political fallout. As you can see by the continuing headlines. (plus, it was a lot more work and cost than just using the government system!). To my dying day, I will not understand why either Hillary or any of her associates could have thought that this was a good idea at any point.
This issue is not going to go away away by waving it away as right-wing talking points, or by emphasizing that there was no criminal intent,or there were no security breaches or that "all the previous secretaries of state did it". That's all true, of course but it's not enough, especially for the GE.
Especially for the GE - and even for these last primaries - what Hillary has to do is figure out a way to assure voters that she has learned something from this experience, and will put those lessons to good use in devising an above-board, by-the-book, abuse-proof, high-security system for email and archiving of all records.
A short speech - not defensive, but forward-looking- that lays out her promise to do so, along with the outlines of her general plan to handle her White House correspondence differently - would . to my mind, be essential to her winning this election (and also to getting her administration off to the right start).
(All in fact that she has to do is to continue with Obama's system, with the help of the White House technology czar. she doesn't have to say that exactly, but Obama's system, and especially the rationale behind it, is what she needs).
Again, I say all this because I want her to win.

(15,438 posts)fact remains, after Snowden's hacking of the State Dept and selling the info to the highest bidder, she did the right thing.
Again, these were RULES, not laws, and every Congresscritter knew she was corresponding via her private account because the e-mail address told them so. So why is this such a big brouhaha now? Possibly for political gain for Repubs?
Again, this report was LEAKED to the press (so much for security) by her political enemies to smear her.
Again, one of the Inspector Generals worked for nasty RW-Chuck Grassley, showing clear political intent.
Again, she did nothing different than former SoS but for some reason she's being treated differently. Hm.
We can excoriate her for following what former SoS's have done and make a mountain out of a molehill, but she did the correct and safe thing. She protected the integrity of secrecy at the State Dept - the very Dept that Snowden easily hacked into and sold information to the highest anti-American bidder for protection.
Her supporters will see this for what it is: Republicans' attempt to gain politically.

Hillary has already come out and admitted she made a mistake, and she will not run away from that mistake, but she will move forward
Those who will not vote for her because of this, would never have voted for her anyway.
In the end, this election will be about the issues:
jobs
civil rights
environment
foreign policy
protecting social security and medicare
health care
immigration
etc.

Maybe it's my perspective, but when I look at them both I see a morally bankrupt, narcissistic, psychotic & paranoid bigot* vs. a highly intelligent, over-qualified, incredibly capable woman. This "mistake" of hers isn't even worth mentioning when you compare it to the fact that Donald Trump's whole pathetic life is a mistake. He's the most repulsive human I've ever seen; that there are people out there hoping he's our next president is truly mind-boggling.
Are the American people really so stupid/sexist/gullible that they can't see that?? God, I hope not, because if so that says a lot of really disturbing things about this country.

As long as this investigation is open by the FBI, Hillary will not be able to say very much, and they know it. The drawn out investigation really smells of political involvement
