by conspiracy theories and a "victimhood" mentality? Is this something dominating with millennials?

When their daughters/granddaughters/nieces come home from school proud of their history projects on The First Woman President, they'll lie and talk about how bravely they supported her.

(521 posts)Most of his supporters are young millennials, i.e. college-age and twentysomethings. These kids, born around 1995 or so, were raised entirely different than previous generations. This is probably the first Presidential election where the "everyone gets a trophy" millennials have been able to vote. These kids who grew up using playgrounds with foam on the ground and plastic covering the handles of the swings, so that they don't get pinched, and who were covered from head to toe before they were allowed to go ride their bike around the neighborhood. They were raised to believe that they're special and entitled to everything, so Bernie's message is right on par with how they were brought up, and anyone with an opposing opinion is "the enemy" or coming from "not a safe space," and it's been fascinating to see how that upbringing has translated into politics.

(27,850 posts)Bernie has been hiding in plain sight for years but never really caught on till recently. Looking back, I know see that he already loved attention and was really a lot better known - even with very few real accomplishments - than you'd expect an independent from a tiny state to be. He has finally encountered a large group that was looking for simple messaging and and that can assemble large crowds quickly due to social media. The ability to donate frequently by phone is also a good fit. I hate to paint all millennials with a broad brush because they aren't all trophy kids and I work with some who are great and hard working, but there are definitely enough who fit the stereotype to prove this point.
