Hillary Clinton

I stuck my neck out and gave a blanket amnesty to all the people who were suspended on five hides, and when those people on your list got their second chance they all chose to double-down on their bad behavior.
And they aren't the only ones. We've got a bunch of Bernie supporters sitting on Flagged For Review status also. Of course they aren't on your list because they don't fit your narrative.
Yes, I get that the system is stacked against Hillary supporters. But that doesn't change the fact that there are plenty of toxic people on both sides of the Hillary/Bernie split.
Allow me to be perfectly clear: The current system of moderating here on DU is done. It completely failed, and I take full responsibility for that. Yes, we are still using it, but we have already signed its death warrant. We have a completely new system and we are going to insist on some standards.
The only reason we haven't unveiled the new system yet is because the primaries are the worst possible time to make a change like that -- the people who don't like the new system (and there will be plenty of them) would frame their opposition as a partisan act in support of their favored candidate, and all the rabid partisans on their side would believe it. People on both sides are so polarized and so primed to believe any story that puffs up their candidate and tears down the other that it would be impossible to make any serious change and make it stick.
Once the primaries are over, we are all on the same side again. Anyone who isn't on the same side was never supposed to be here in the first place. And anyone who persists in disrupting this site -- no matter what side they're on -- will no longer be welcome.
I am stepping back, again, from DC-P. It will be over by June 7.

(3,517 posts)I am glad he admits his jury system is a failure. From day one I called it Jury Lotto.

(1,968 posts)The system is broken, but we won't fix it because correcting a known problem will annoy people.
Honey, that's by definition, and it's going to be true no matter when you do it.
But you already acknowledged that one camp (the one I happen to be in, so I could be a bit biased) is disadvantaged. The refusal to fix the acknowledged issues simply allows that disadvantage to continue.
My personal, and rather cynical, read of this is that the current kerfluffle is fairly lucrative and nobody really cares if it costs thoughtful posters who are on the "wrong" side of the mob anything.
It's not making me feel all that positive about the future of DU...but it's also eroding my level of concern enough that I don't really care any more. If Skinner wants to make this bed, he can then lie in it--without my monetary support.

They were against TOS but were a leave.. I reported them by the Abuse Alert.. but, who knows if that does any good or not?

(1,968 posts)And minor, invisible consequences do nothing to quell the storm.
I haven't served on a jury in ages, so I presume the fact that I'm really down on Skinner has had some consequences. Or I simply spend less time here, on average, and don't get called. Whatever.
Like I said, my site-specific emotional attachment has faded a lot in the past six months.

I just checked your profile and it said you have a 19% chance of serving on jury.. so that's why.. I wish he would do away with it and have mods who hid posts accordingly if we posted against the TOS.
TwilightZone
(25,517 posts)that's pretty much all I need to know about the current state of the jury system. But then, stuff like that or worse happens all day, every day now.
About all we can do is wait it out until June 8th (I hope) and see if the major changes that have been indicated actually happen.

The tyrannical majority.
Some of the long time trolls have been banned, like Manny, but there are still a lot of his followers carrying on the business of trashing and bashing Democrats, the party and anyone here who is not one of them. We also have a ton of new bashers coming in every single day, and I will admit they are working both sides, but most of them like to claim they support Bernie, although I think a huge numberer of them are just plain trolls who don't want "any" Democrat to get elected in November.

(25,517 posts)I agree with him that supporters of both candidates - well, really, all candidates for office - are guilty of abhorrent behavior, because that's just human nature. It's been like that as long as DU has been around and pretty much as long as politics has existed.
That being said, when one side is so overwhelming misrepresented in the equation and abhorrent behavior is selectively "moderated" by a jury system hilariously weighted to one side of the scale, the argument breaks down. But, really, Skinner knows this and has admitted it. He should have known, however, that letting the inmates run the asylum might be problematic.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I somewhat agree that it should be allowed to run its course until we have an official nominee. It's really a catch-22. Make the change now and the place goes insane. Let it go until June 8th and it continues its rapid burn, pun intended.
But then the hammer needs to come down, because we have a president to elect and a Congress to flip so she can govern without endless GOP obstruction.

In all fairness, we're merely defending ourselves.
I guess what the Admins want is for us to sit down and shut up when we're unfairly and unjustly attacked. The problem with this is, this gives the faux-Democrats supporting Sanders the illusion that we've been cowered. I see them crowing victory each and every time a Hillary supporter moves on from a discussion that's trending toward a nasty and vile shouting match.
They should institute the new rules now since the primaries are pretty much over and we already have a Democratic winner. Far too much leeway is given Sanders supporters on each and every site that doesn't have a strict moderation system.
