Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumShakesville: Sanders says he's "entitled" to superdelegates. Oh.
Meanwhile: "Bernie Sanders Says Superdelegates Should Follow Voters' Will in Landslide States."
Bernie Sanders said on Sunday that he and Hillary Clinton were heading to a "contested" convention this summer because she will need superdelegates to secure the nomination, a claim that clashes with the accepted definition of a contested convention. He also said that superdelegates who have supported her should switch to him instead.
At a news conference in Washington, Mr. Sanders said that the Democratic convention in July would be contested because "it is virtually impossible for Secretary Clinton to reach the majority of convention delegates by June 14 with pledged delegates alone," and that she "will need superdelegates to take her over the top." He added: "In other words, the convention will be a contested convention."
A convention is typically understood as contested when a candidate cannot reach the necessary delegate count using both pledged delegates and superdelegates, typically party officials and state leaders who are not bound to any candidate.
.....
"If I win a state with 70 percent of the vote, you know what? I think I am entitled to those superdelegates," Mr. Sanders said.
Emphasis mine.

So, Sanders believes he is "entitled" to superdelegates' votes, and also doesn't understand what a contested convention actually is. Also: Even if the system worked precisely the way he wants it to work, and he got all those superdelegates to which he feels entitled, guess what? He'd still be losingbecause Clinton has had more decisive victories in bigger states with larger numbers of superdelegates.
So, this, toolike all of his other excuses for why he is losingis bullshit.
Sanders' fundraising has dropped off a cliff, so it's obvious that a significant number of his supporters have resigned themselves to the fact that he's lost. The only people still in denial seem to be the diehard conspiracy spinners and the candidate himself.

The truly disgusting part about Bernie's contested convention aspirations is how he thinks he's entitled to override the will of POC/women.

(5,737 posts)He has failed to recognize the value of older voters (the most reliable in the Party), minorities, those in the south, plus several more. They just don't understand that the Democrat Party isn't all white and under the age of 35.

(10,014 posts)Does he think the voters don't see how shameful he is to think he can make up the rules as he goes along? And if he doesn't win then it is automatically fraud. What a prick.
Speaking of pricks, what happened to Weaver and Devine? Lately, it's been the Jane and Bernie Show.

(30,058 posts)pledged delegates it will be impossible for him to acquire the amount of pledged delegates to win the nomination. There are 168 super delegates left who has not endorsed, two of those are the Clintons, and many more who will wait until the convention before endorsing, it isn't going to happen. Sanders is showing he is willing to get beat again at the convention. He is trying to have it both ways, he says super delegates are not democratic but he is out trying to get their endorsement. He should have started his play twenty five years ago.

(11,639 posts)He isn't forced to say anything. Others do feed him headlines, obvious after he over-reacted to the one about Hillary insinuating he was "unqualified" and that turned out to have been just a made-up headline, but ultimately he is the candidate and is responsible for his campaign.
He has always loved talking while others listen. As a young man he saw his chance amidst other young people during protests, and he has gravitated to a microphone ever since--even if he really doesn't have anything fresh or important to say, and perhaps he doesn't even care as much about things as he pretends--he likes to be the important big guy in the room. This helps to explain why he has not attracted many Congressional colleagues to his side, because they would have to stand behind him and not likely ever get their back scratched in return. Listen to how many times he uses the pronoun "I" when he speaks. On the flip-side he assumes to speak for "the American People."
Sanders has gone off the rails due to his own pomposity. I have always wondered if he has a personality disorder.

(50,589 posts)It takes a total of 2,383 delegates to win the nomination.
If Hillary doesn't show up at the convention with at least 2,400 pledged delegates (because a few of the ones she has might prove to be faithless and switch to Bernie between now and Philadelphia), then the convention will be contested.
But if Bernie shows up at the convention with at least 1664 pledged delegates (2383 delegates minus 719 superdelegates), then he has won because, obviously, all 719 superdelegates will switch to him.
Here's Bernie's second-biggest problem: Assume he walks in the door with exactly 1,664 pledged delegates and an assumption the entire superdelegate cohort will come to their senses and support him. There are 4046 pledged delegates. Subtract 1664 delegates and, because this is a two-horse race, Hillary will come in with 2,382 pledged delegates - ONE SHORT OF WHAT SHE NEEDS.
And if that happens, here is his biggest problem: Two of the superdelegates who would have to flip to Bernie are William Jefferson Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Let's be realistic here. In order to win this nomination, Bernie has to win 907 more pledged delegates PLUS 158 of the remaining 160 superdelegates - because you know the Clintons are not going to support Bernie after all the shit he heaped on them over the last year...or any other combination that gets him to 1,065 additional delegates.

Hillary earns every vote she gets by her stellar long record of accomplishments & listening to concerns of many and actually presenting a path to a functioning society, rather than campaigning on slogans & slander and Speaking To masses of a specifically white entitled demographic like bernie does.
Bernie reminds his hand picked demographic how entitled they are. HILLARY REMINDS US THAT WE ARE ALL ENTITLED. Not just those with the biggest mouths.
This is why Hillary will be our President in Nov.
I can't wait for the Hillary/Trump debate.
She'll make a fool out of him in the eyes of the world.
Bernie who? Hillary has moved on from the tantrums of the entitled one.

(25,111 posts)Damn the Democratic Party's primary polices which have been in effect for over 30 years, which Tad Devine knew about. Damn that Tad Devine helped in the creation of the super delegates. Damn the popular vote and pledged delegates that HRC has more of, cause since they are for her, they don't matter.
Doesn't sound right to me, but in reality, BS, his campaign and his surrogates are in their own world.

(1,359 posts)here to save Democrats from themselves and the terror of intelligent decision-making. His mindless pablum about billionaires and revolutions and "WALL STREET!" was supposed to make long-serving Democrats tremble at his presence.
Except people still get to vote, and they told Bernie to go away. (self-censored to avoid another jury today)
And then they have the fucking nerve to whine about "democracy" being broken. No, you lost. Suck it up and move on, like an adult. Try again next cycle, like an adult. Self-analyze and make adjustments to improve going forward, like an adult.

(51,299 posts)He would be right.
BUT He is not right!
That is not how automatic delegates are suppose to decide their support. They are free to decide on their own who they will support. And to change their mind if a different candidate would be better.
It is up to automatic delegates to decide mainly who would be the better candidate based on information they have available to them. And unless they know something they consider a problem they will not subvert the will of the people. Along that same note. Automatic delegates would know if the email server is an issue. They would have the real pertinent information about the investigation and how it could or would not impact the nominee. They would also know background information about Sanders as well. Much of it has not been revealed.

(2,117 posts)is you take all the people's ballots, you find the ones with your opponent's name on them, you say you're going to the bathroom, and you quick run to Brazil and throw then into a volcano. Then you tell the super delegates that they better vote for your candidate, or else, to save America, and you TAKE the presidency. Then everyone will know that you really do have principles.
