what my cursor rests on. The text boxes get in the way when I'm trying to type and I have to move the the cursor to see what I'm typing.

Anyone know how to get rid of these annoying text displays?

1. Having done a lot of mac support, I am intrigued by oddball questions (sometimes my own)

Some tidbits from cruising the internet real fast.

1. Try disabling full access in keyboard and restoring it (ios with external keyboard)

I sometimes get artifacts lying about the screen (not your problem, admittedly) and log out and back in or reboot.(killall Finder?, I forgot)

3. Something to check:

Hunting in System Settings > Accessibility, there is an item for Hover Text that uses the Control key to give a “large-text view of the item under the pointer.” That sounds like what you're seeing, but only if your Control key is stuck somehow. You could try turning that feature off and see if that fixes it.
