iPhone 6s battery issue

My phone usually only briefly holds a charge after disconnecting from the charger and often crashes after disconnecting and showing only a 10% charge when reconnected. Then, after rebooting, which is becoming increasingly more difficult, it will be fully charged.

In Settings it shows a maximum battery capacity of 88%. It is also now crashing less with auto-lock disabled.

Any advice other than getting a new phone? I’m hoping to baby this one along for another few weeks, but worry about having a dead phone in case of an emergency.

They can run a diagnostic on it and tell you what’s up. My iPad had 14% battery capacity and I ended up getting a new iPad for $100 - original version but they still had some.

The little wall wart that came with your phone is only a 5-watt charger. If it's damaged or under-performing, your phone won't be getting a full charge. From your post, it sounds like your phone isn't really powered up unless it's plugged in.

If your Settings indicates that your battery still has an 88% capacity, I'd consider buying a new, higher wattage charger, like 15- or even 30-watts. Your phone will charge much faster. Anker makes some really good products and their cables have a lifetime warranty. They're less expensive than buying a new phone!

Actually, I have a 6S and I'm going to buy the new 12 mini. It's a bit pricey but these phones can last 5 or 6 years. If you amortize its cost on a daily basis, they're not too much money.

Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!

I did that with my 6 about a year and a half ago after the battery started failing. Take it into the store and ask them, they should do it in about an hour or so. It only cost me about $25-30 IIRC and the phone is still going strong.

Also, you could try using a toothpick or something similar (wood or plastic, avoid metal) to scrape gunk out of the lightning port. That can sometimes help with charging issues, if the cable isn't making a proper connection. You'd be surprise how much lint you can dig out of there.

I’ve also got a 6S and that update drained my battery like crazy, and I started having crashes. Disabling the covid stuff helped. My issues were not as bad as what you are experiencing, but it may help your phone to limp along to the finish line.

BATTERIES PLUS and many other places can have it done for you in 5-20 minutes.

Wear a mask of course and bring some some sanitizer.
