Should I install Windows 10?
Automatically downloaded but don't know anything about it.

(112,592 posts)From what I've read the product is available free for one year, then you have to pay for it afterwards. I haven't read anything about whether it is possible to revert back to your current OS if you decide not to purchase it after the trial. In addition, the peripheral drivers that are available with your current OS may not be available if you decide to revert back to it.
I was a bit interested in the upgrade since I do have a touch screen PC, but after looking into it I can still hang with Windows 7 instead since I don't know what my financial situation will be in a year. If you don't have a touch screen computer, then I really don't see anything that would cause me to switch.

(3,555 posts)There is no "trial" period. The OS optional upgrade will be completely free for current Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1 users "for the supported lifetime of the device" for its first year of availabilityafter that time period, OS upgrades will cost $$$.

This is more than a one-time upgrade: once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device at no cost. With Windows 10, the experience will evolve and get even better over time. Well deliver new features when theyre ready, not waiting for the next major release. We think of Windows as a Service in fact, one could reasonably think of Windows in the next couple of years as one of the largest Internet services on the planet.
Windows Pro allows full "downgrade" rights, so you can go back to Windows 7 or 8.x for as long as MS supports those releases. You can also go back to Windows 10 at any time. Windows Home does not have downgrade rights, but since you have the original license, you would simply be re-installing your original license, not the upgraded license. I am not a lawyer, however, so this is just my interpretation.

(3,270 posts)...then it is probably safe to install it. This is the point when the patches will have fixed the major problems.
There is absolutely NO rush to install it if what you have is working.

(1,005 posts)I'm installing on day one. I've been using the technical previews since January, and they've gotten better as time goes on. There isn't any reason for me to delay upgrading.

(1,005 posts)So I've got to update it, especially with the Surface Pro Firmware updates. Other systems on Win 7 and 8.1 are getting upgraded immediately.

(21,506 posts)Just to see how it seems to go for the majority of people that do it.
I am currently using it and I like it a lot but the upgrade could cause problems for people so I would hold off for a couple of weeks just to be safe.

(21,506 posts)In order for that to happen he had to keep his porn in his pictures folder. Pretty stupid place to keep porn in the first place. At least if you didn't want anyone to see it.
