Need help with sim card and Blu Win Jr W410A phone

Hi all, I'm a bit of a klutz with phones, so bear with me here.
I got this phone: http://www.bluproducts.com/index.php/win-jr
This is not a critical situation, since it's a second phone.
Anyway, it's unlocked and you have to insert your own mini-sim card from your carrier. I checked on the carrier's website and they say the line is activated. The phone has two slots for sim cards and one slot for an SD card. Here's the problem: With my last phone, it was super easy to insert the card and take it out. You simply put the sim card in with the electrical contacts face down, gently tap it in to make sure it was a good connection and close the case.
With this phone, you have to push the card into the slot, then slide it UNDERNEATH a plastic covering to make contact with the electronics. When I went to turn the phone on, it keeps telling me invalid sim card. I've tried to extract the damn sim card but it's so far up into the housing that it's going to take special surgery to get it out. Talk about poor design!
Anyway, I wanted to get feedback before I contact the phone manufacturer so I know what to say and what to ask.
Thanks!
eta: I figured out where I really messed up. The sim card my carrier sent me had the "Standard Sim" card (also known as a mini-sim card), with the "Micro Sim" card within it. You can push out the Micro-Sim card and use it alone if the Standard Sim card is too large. I should have used the larger Standard Sim card.
eta2: I think I've found the perfect tool to extract the inaccesible sim card

(37,457 posts)I called my carrier and this is what happened:
1- Blu has a bad reputation for their phones' internet connectivity. Be warned.
2- I inserted the ****** sim card wrong. The notch on the lower right hand side has to STAY that way, facing you upon insertion.
3- Carrier is sending me a new sim card.
Told ya I was a klutz with phones.

(37,457 posts)The customer service rep. even looked up exactly how to insert my sim card for my phone on Youtube.
For now, I'm good. If the new sim card fails to work when inserted correctly, then I have a problem.
She mentioned I might have to extract the one already in there, which (imho) is going to require a very thin pair of tweezers.

I'd be tempted to stick the new card in the second slot and forget about the other SIM as long as the phone actually works.
A guy I used to work with got a new phone a was showing it to to me (maybe 3-4 years ago) and was extolling its virtues and features, email, web, hi-res camera... He finished up by saying, "If only the damn thing was any good for making an actual phone call, I'd be really happy with it."
Best of luck

(3,270 posts)That should give you enough friction to pull it down out of the slot. Of course you have to remove the battery first.
(I'm pretty sure I'm thinking of the right model)

(37,457 posts)Right now the slot is maybe only a few millimeters wide. Really shitty design, if you ask me. The other phone I had was extremely accessible for the sim card.

(37,457 posts)I got the new sim card from my carrier. I inserted it very carefully into the second sim card slot. Phone updated to latest version of Windows 8.1. Rebooted. Voila, it worked. I just had to figure out how to make a call on the second card, because of course it defaults to the first sim card.
I'm going to post a "sim card for dummies" entry on my personal blog, and this is why I've updated this post.
