Related: About this forum'Leave' campaign wants Leave supporter Marine Le Pen banned from the UK
As they say, you couldn't make it up - just for added irony, Gisela Stuart was born in Germany, and moved to Britain when she was 19, just after Britain joined the EEC.
A senior figure in the campaign for UK exit from the EU has urged the Home Office to bar French far right leader Marine Le Pen from visiting Britain.
Vote Leave co-chairman Gisela Stuart said Ms Le Pen held "divisive and inflammatory" views and her visit would not be "conducive to the public good".
The president of the French National Front, who backs Brexit, is expected to travel to the UK in the next few weeks.
...
In a letter to Home Secretary Theresa May sent on Friday, Ms Stuart said the National Front leader "has previously made many divisive and inflammatory comments, including comparing Muslims praying in the street to the Nazi occupation of France".

Contrary to what I think you were trying to say earlier, the fact that shes written to me to suggest that I should stop somebody coming into the country rather does suggest we have control of our borders, Mrs May said.

Always embarrassing when the racist relative wants to come and visit - maybe 'Leave' should just turn out the lights and pretend they're not home?

(41,203 posts)Trump also backs Brexit!
As regards EU immigrants who back Brexit or UKIP, it's not uncommon. Nigel Farage's wife is German. For some time, one of my UKIP MEPs - she later switched to the Tories - was Marta Andreasen, a Spaniard, who had worked for Price Waterhouse Cooper, but otherwise had little obvious previous connection to the UK.
I often think it's ironic that our most xenophobic types tend to express great admiration for the Queen (of German and Danish descent, and married to a Greek) and St George (from Turkey I believe; of Greek and Middle Eastern origin).

Neither Blair, nor most Tories, went as far as that.

(101,265 posts)so it doesn't surprise me she supported Bush. Since it was founded, it's got worse - here was one of its academics, after he resigned:

And it's still churning out crap like 'The View from Britainistan'; Stuart is still on its 'Political Council'.
