This old Chinese poem is very relevant to the UK today!

ON THE BIRTH OF HIS SON
Su Tung-p'o (1036--1101)

Families, when a child is born
Want it to be intelligent.
I, through intelligence,
Having wrecked my whole life,
Only hope the baby will prove
Ignorant and stupid.
Then he will crown a tranquil life
By becoming a Cabinet Minister

Dumb people don't do that bad a job, though, unless they're ideologues.

Ideologues are so wedded to their ideology that they're blind to its failures.

Give me a muddler any old day over a supremely confident ideologue.
