Nadine Dorries resigns; Patel gets damehood, Rees-Mogg knighted in Boris Johnson resignation honours

(The Guardian found the perfect photo - Patel, Rees-Mogg and Johnson laughing, but no sign of Mad Nad)

Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list has just been published. He has awarded seven peerages. Among the names are former Conservative mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey, current Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen and former special adviser to Johnson Charlotte Owen. Nadine Dorries is not on the list.

Also on the list are former cabinet ministers Jacob Rees-Mogg and Priti Patel who will receive a knighthood and a damehood respectively.

A number of aides who were implicated in the Partygate scandal have been honoured in Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list.

Nadine Dorries stands down as MP with immediate effect

She made the announcement in a tweet after having reportedly been dropped from Boris Johnson’s resignation honours. The move means there will be a byelection in her Mid Bedfordshire constituency where, in 2019, the Conservatives won a 24,000 majority.
...
Speaking on Friday after the announcement, Dorries said “something significant” had persuaded her to quit. “The bottom line is really, I’m doing my own show on TalkTV and I write a column in the Daily Mail every Tuesday, which takes a lot more time than I ever thought it would do,” she said.

“And the House of Lords thing was on the cards and it’s gone back to Holac (House of Lords appointments commission) for MPs to be vetted or whatever and I just thought, you know, I think this is the time actually for me to stand down.”

Good to see the back of her in Parliament. Looks like someone said she was too awful even for the Lords. I don't think the Tories can find a replacement worse than her.

When my MP Evan Harris was narrowly defeated in 2010, at least partly as a result of a religious-right 'pro-life' smear campaign, she was very likely involved in it and certainly gloated viciously over it.

I hold grudges over things like that. I don't need Palinism in my own fucking backyard.

She was also incredibly vicious in her attacks on a disabled constituent, who had dared to criticize her, suggesting that she couldn't be genuinely disabled if she could tweet so much.

I hold grudges over things like that too.

Do my eyes and ears deceive me, or has Mad Nad resigned her seat? (That's what she said about Evan Harris' defeat, calling him 'Dr. Death'. As I said, I hold grudges.)

My only worry is that she might now get a gig on GB News or in one of the RW tabloids.

She was a disaster as a minister. Spiteful and vindictive with no interest in doing anything for anyone other than herself and Boris Johnson (who also resigned as an MP on the same day)
