Nigel Farage defends Boris Johnson calling gay men 'bum boys' saying it's part of his 'brand'

Nigel Farage has defended homophobic, racist, sexist and Islamophobic comments made by Boris Johnson in a radio interview on BBC 5 Live. He excused the comments repeatedly made by Boris Johnson in the 1990s and early 2000s when the prime minister was working as a journalist.

...Nigel Farage has defended the bigoted comments by describing Boris Johnson as a "very outspoken journalist", adding that the use of terms like 'tank-topped bum boys' is simply part of the "Boris brand".

...Host Nicky Campbell pressed Farage on the comments further, asking: "Is the phrase piccaninnies referring to people of colour acceptable or not?"

"It's not, but as I say that is Boris. He earns his living [sic] being a controversial journalist. I may not approve of all of it but I also think that if we start to go down the road of people saying this or that is unacceptable, if we want to bar him from public life, then we might finish up with nobody in public life at all."

re-election campaign in a nut shell. Where do you draw the line on bad behavior? If you can't express yourself in your own way then you end up with no one pure enough to take the job. His impurity may be the greatest impurity, but he is getting the job done!

Hope our side is ready to counter this in a big way.

is: are voters willing to accept another term and the further degradation of the office?

I don’t know the answer. I figured when he made fun of a disabled reporter that he was done. Now he does a mock orgasm at his rally. I really feel like we heading toward an abyss(or maybe we are there). 2020 will tell a lot about our future.

We have a situation at the moment where right wing politicians are held to significantly lower standards than the rest of us. If you behaved like Johnson in any normal job you would most likely end up getting fired for gross misconduct.

This needs to be highlighted at every opportunity.

Farage's Brexit party is now polling at the level of UKIP a year ago. ie irrelevant (and I don't imagine for a moment that Farage could get voters back by denouncing this - they were the people Johnson was writing this for). The people who should be exposed as supporting Johnson are the Tory candidates, most of whom voted for the fucker in the leadership contest. That might then pull some moderates away from them.

The Tories will attract those who want an easy route to getting elected (such as their candidate where I live, who is quite open about this)

They will also draw in those candidates who want an environment where they can be held to lower standards for bad behaviour. Combined with Johnson's recent purge of the moderates this is going to be very bad indeed. We desperately need better politicians and as a country we are failing on this point
