Farage says Brexit party will contest every seat in Britain if Tories do not agree to pact

BBC highlights from Farage's announcement in Hartlepool:

Farage says the only way to solve the Brexit impasse is to create a leave alliance.

That does not just mean Tories and the Brexit party, he says. He says there are other leavers who might join.

He says, if that were to happen, they could become, as President Trump said yesterday, “an unstoppable force”.

If that does not happen, the Brexit party will be the only party standing up for Brexit.

He says it will make sure that every house in the land gets information about how the deal is a sell-out.

And he says the party will contest every seat in Britain.

I'd put the chances of the Tories agreeing a pact with the Brexit Party as vanishingly small, so I guess it's game on, unless Farage is just bluffing, though he'll find it very hard to back away from his utter condemnation of Johnson's deal today.

It sounds like Johnson's going to be at the pointy end of a many-pronged attack ...

2. Johnson says no

In response the prime minister flatly rejected the idea of any electoral pact on Friday evening, saying a vote for any other party risked a Labour victory on 12 December.

“The advantage of our deal is it’s oven-ready, it’s there to go, you put it in, come back in the middle of December, and we get it done and Brexit is over the line,” he told the BBC.

Pressed about whether he would be prepared to strike any kind of deal with Farage, he said: “Now the difficulty about doing deals with any other party is that any other party, I’m afraid, simply risks putting Jeremy Corbyn into No 10.”

3. Well, there's a surprise.

“It’s really quite straightforward – where the Brexit party stand they hurt the Conservatives much more than they hurt Labour.”

As somebody pointed out on Twitter, if the baseline is the last Euro elections, then Labour defectors to the Brexit Party are already factored in, so the Tories are likely to be the main casualties in seats where the Brexit Party stands anyway.

Now we get the fun of watching Farage et al. picking holes in Johnson's pretty shoddy deal. And maybe even exploding the shameful myth that passing this first milestone means that Brexit's "done" and "over the line".
