This was the culmination of an 8 year plan. My husband is English, and he has lived with me in the U.S. for 20+ years. His entire family is in the U.K., kids and grandkids, and even 1 great grand. When we started talking about retirement, 8 years ago, the subject of moving to England came up. It seemed fair and even a very good idea. My children are all in their 30's and 40's and we will visit once a year, just as my husband and I have visited his family over the years. Visa and Immigration takes a long time and we jumped trough all the hoops and after 4 months of waiting my visa for 30 months was granted. My husband moved over in March, after the sale of our house in Florida. I was stuck waiting but was finally able to join him.
This decision had nothing to do with the political climate in the U.S., but I wasn't unhappy to be leaving. I do not feel like I belong in the U.S. anymore. After 30 months I can extend the visa and eventually get citizenship if we decide to stay permanently. We don't know yet. But for right now, this is right for me.
And retirement is amazing.

Just be prepared for the inevitable (almost always kindly) curiosity from strangers the moment you open your mouth!
