And without those words, there's not much you can say about MPs these days!

And being economic with the truth are usual euphemisms.

I couldn't do any of it, including surgeries where you have to listen to a load of people moaning about their problems. I've got enough of my own.

I wouldn't mind doing the surgeries for people's genuine problems if I could help; but I wouldn't fancy having to run all over the place opening fetes and the like; and receiving all sorts of crazy letters in green ink from nutters; and always worrying about a Thomas Mair possibly lurking round the corner. And having to spend lots of time around other MPs, and vote with my party like a cloned sheep. And having the Daily Mail and Sun etc writers have carte blanche to be vile about me!

Eight years of working for the Social turned me into a right hard nosed bastard, it was either that or go insane. I have huge admiration for most of our MPs, even a few of the Tory ones.

I do admire many MPs, who are hardworking and helpful to their constituents. Unfortunately, we tend to hear about the nasty or self-publicizing ones. Few had heard of the extremely decent Jo Cox until that terrorist killed her...

As such she has a fair bit of Speaker's duties, which does alter the way she has to approach the job of being an MP. She can't be the sort of partisan warrior many in her own party would want her to be. Although it does make her part of the government.
