Related: About this forumAngela Eagle to announce Labour party leadership bid on Monday
Watson claimed in a statement that Corbyn had torpedoed any hope of talks progressing by publicly declaring his intention to stay on as leader come what may.
In a statement released on Saturday morning, Watson said that with regret and profound sadness he had concluded that there was little to be achieved in continuing discussions between the unions, who are largely backing Corbyn, and key members of the parliamentary party, including chief whip Rosie Winterton and parliamentary party chair John Cryer.
It is understood that Watson has been privately asking the two key contenders for the leadership, Angela Eagle and Owen Smith, to hold back from launching their campaigns to allow further time for an agreement with Corbyn to be made.

The leader of Britain's biggest trade union has condemned a decision by Tom Watson to call off a meeting over the leadership crisis as an "act of sabotage."
Len McCluskey, general secretary of Unite, said that a plan to resolve bitter differences in the party had "never been closer", but Mr Watson cancelled the meeting which was due to take place on Sunday.

(50,254 posts)would have been Corbyn standing down, then being barred from entering the leadership contest, with no one at all from the left being allowed to enter the leadership contest, and the extreme right-wing pre-Corbyn status quo being restored.
This "compromise" would have made a Labour victory in 2020 both impossible and meaningless.
An Angela Eagle-led Labour Party would keep the bomb, continue attacking Syria(probably sending in ground troops at some point) back the benefits cap, back the Tory budget charter, and continue to keep internal democracy totally supressed. No one would think there was any meaningful difference between Labour and the Tories if that situation was created. Labour would go back to being a principle-free dead zone.
Labour Party membership would instantly plummet, and a party can't win an election when people are leaving it.

(14,737 posts)Even it's just a few random nutters on Twitter behaving like that.
As we are discussing on another thread, we live in an age when people will make an issue over a female politician who doesn't have children so we cannot be too optimistic about these matters.

(50,254 posts)The left supports the LGBTQ struggle wholeheartedly. Labour only started fighting for LGBTQ rights in the Eighties because the Left was leading it. The right wing of the party still felt decriminalization was sufficient.

And if it does happen, it will be highlighted, just as happens when people claiming to be leftier then thou resort to misogynist abuse of politicians like Liz Kendall.

(50,254 posts)Most likely that would be Tory or UKIP supporters pretending to be leftists.
I do condemn anyone who would make an issue of it.

(7,233 posts)Angela Eagle has been subjected to homophobic abuse since resigning from the Shadow cabinet and revealing her plans to challenge current leader Jeremy Corbyn, according to a senior Labour politician.
Speaking on Daily Politics earlier today, Baroness Tessa Jowell said members of Labours Parliamentary Party had been subjected to intimidation, abuse and fear in the wake of a vote of no confidence in Mr Corbyn last week.
... Baroness Jowell claimed that Ms Eagle had suffered anti-gay abuse from members of the left-wing, pro-Corbyn group Momentum at the meeting in Wallasey who she says do not represent the majority of Labour party supporters.
I spoke to Angela about her meeting, she said. She faced homophobic abuse at that meeting.

(7,233 posts)in case anybody's not willing to trust a screencap from Facebook:
... several of those who attended the meeting have refuted the accusation claiming that Ms Eagle was not even at the meeting in question.
Kathy Runswick Chair of the Wallasey Constituency told PinkNews that the allegation was completely untrue.
Angela Eagle was not at the Wallasey Labour Party AGM and thus could not have faced homophobic abuse, she added.
There is zero tolerance of homophobia in Wallasey Labour Party, and the Constituency Labour Party will now fully investigate these new allegations.

Jowell hasn't responded to repeated media requests for comment about her claims.

The YouTube video above very clearly explains how Angela Eagles office windows were not targeted. They were left untouched. But it appears that somebody connected to Ms Eagle or possibly Ms Eagle herself, when briefing the press pack, has allowed their dishonesty or their desire to misrepresent what happened to get the better of them.

Eagle's office shares a building with other organizations. The window broken was in a common stairwell.
Here's Eagle's office window, still intact:
