Alberta Premier Jason Kenney resigns as UCP leader

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney resigned as United Conservative Party leader Wednesday after receiving 51.4 per cent approval of his leadership from United Conservative Party members.

The result was revealed early Wednesday evening at an invitation-only event in Calgary for Kenney-friendly UCP MLAs, volunteers and supporters.

"The result is not what I hoped for or frankly what I expected," Kenney told a gathering of supporters and volunteers in Calgary after the results of the leadership review were announced.

"While 51 per cent of the vote passes the constitutional threshold of a majority, it clearly is not adequate support to continue on as leader."

He did get enough to stay, just not enough for him, I guess. Hurt his feelings. Bev54 May 2022 #3

because the party would have been easier to beat with him as leader but now it's likely going to be Brian Jean and he's going to be tough to beat unless he really messes up over the next months.

That is my point, I think with Jean they will win and I want them out.
