A man stranded on a remote WA four-wheel-drive track since the start of the year was low on fuel and concerned he would run out of water, police have revealed.

Phillip Blampied was found alive and well today by search crews one week after he was due to return from his trip to the Talawana Track and Canning Stock Route.

Described as an experienced bushman, Mr Blampied had set out on the rugged Pilbara track this month when he ran low on fuel.

Arriving at Well 4 to find no water, Mr Blampied turned around to head back to Well 6, which had water and shady trees.
