Wachs announces bid for governor's seat in 2018
When he was elected to represent Wisconsins 91st legislative Assembly district in 2012, Democrat Dana Wachs looked forward not only to representing the city where he was born and raised but to working with his fellow legislators on a host of issues intended to better the lives of state residents.
But far too often, Wachs said, that hasnt happened. Instead, he said, the Republican-controlled Legislature has forwarded its agenda, often with little input from Democrats and the public in creating policies he said hurt many in the state.
I had all of these ideas going to Madison, about working on legislation to help the people of this state, Wachs said. But it became apparent very quickly that wasnt how it was going to work. I learned that regular folks dont have a voice in Madison.
In an effort to change that and many other facets of state government, Wachs on Monday announced his campaign to be Wisconsin governor. During an interview with the Leader-Telegram at which he officially kicked off his campaign, the 59-year-old Eau Claire lawyer was sharply critical of Gov. Scott Walker, saying Republican-backed policies under Walkers administration have harmed most Wisconsin citizens while benefiting the wealthy.
