In the 2012 elections, Wisconsin Republicans only took 49 percent of the vote in U.S. House races, yet they won 5 out of the 8 congressional districts.

This disparity was the result of extreme gerrymandering by the Wisconsin GOP. By holding backroom strategy meetings with private special-interest lawyers, Republican State Legislators allowed their hand-picked congressional candidates to pick their voters, and not the other way around.

Last month, the Supreme Court declared the constitutionality of independent redistricting commissions. We need to make sure that we too are protected here in Wisconsin from partisan gerrymandering.

We are working hard to elect a Democratic majority to the State Senate, but we know it will be an uphill battle.

With an independent redistricting commission, we can protect Wisconsin from greedy politicians looking to carve out their districts, whether or not we are able to elect a majority.

5 out of 8 seats is not gerrymandering.

You'd have a hard time finding anyone in the math profession agreeing with Mr. Miller.
