Washington's top H-1B employers: Companies hire thousands as Trump considers scaling back program
Despite President Donald Trump's threats to overhaul or scrap the high-tech immigration program used by many Washington companies, H-1B visa applications are still flooding in.
More than 336,000 people applied for H-1B visas in the past eight months, according to recent data released by U.S. Immigration and Citizenship Services, compared to less than 400,000 in the year ending Sept. 30, 2016.
The rate of approvals is down, however, from 87 percent during the federal immigration agency's last fiscal year between October 2015 and September 2016 to 58 percent between October 2016 and June 30, 2017.
Washington companies received approval to hire thousands of H-1B holders in 2017. Microsoft and Amazon plus Microsoft vendors Infosys and HCL America once again ranked among the top visa holders in the U.S. Find out how many visa-holders Washington's top H-1B employers were approved to hire in 2017 in the slideshow above.
Trump in April signed an executive order signaling his intent to reform the H-1B visa program, but few changes have been made so far.
