Swedish embarks on massive First Hill expansion

The Puget Sound region's largest health care development is about to begin construction in Seattle.

Swedish Health Services' $1.3 billion-plus North Tower project on the First Hill campus is the most ambitious development in the institution's 113-year history, according Swedish President and CEO Elizabeth Wako, who added it will "rank among the largest health care investments in the country."

The new acute care facility and a second building with outpatient and imaging services plus office space will more than double the size of the campus from about 1.5 million to 3.15 million square feet. Planning for the expansion began in 2015.

"I see Swedish as the cornerstone of health care in Seattle, so this is big," Wako said. "It represents a transformational investment in Seattle's urban core at a time when revitalizing downtown Seattle is more important than ever."

just what they need on First Hill more construction, more traffic, more not being able to get around. My sister had a knee replacement a few weeks ago there and just getting there is a super nightmare. How they are going to pull this off is really hard to visualize.
