Statewide burn ban enacted after overnight wildfires in Eastern Washington
Wildfire season is here, and the King County Fire Marshal Chris Ricketts issued a Phase 1 burn ban on Monday due to hot, dry weather in the area.
Additionally, Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz also signed a statewide burn ban covering 12 million acres of public and private forestland in the Evergreen State.
"We simply cannot take any chances right now with wildfire potential so great," said Commissioner Franz. "Recent hot weather has set the stage for fires to start easily and grow quickly any spark can set off a megafire. I ask that we all do our part to prevent wildfires and keep our communities safe by abiding by this burn ban and being extremely cautious when it comes to activities that could start a fire."
The warning comes as the Department of Natural Resources confirms two new wildfires in Eastern Washington that broke out Monday night. Both fires are currently 0% contained.
