ST. GEORGE — One teen was killed and three others were injured during a rollover on state Route 59 in Washington County early Tuesday morning. ... Shortly before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to westbound state Route 59 on a single-vehicle crash reported at mile marker 14 just west of Apple Valley.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden told St. George News that emergency responders arrived at the scene to find an overturned Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that came to rest several yards off the left shoulder of the roadway. Three of the four occupants were ejected during the rollover, including a 16-year-old passenger who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three remaining occupants were transported to St. George Regional Hospital with moderate to serious injuries — none of which were life-threatening, Roden added. ... At the time of the crash, the truck occupied by four teenage males was heading west on SR-59 toward Hurricane, when the driver reportedly crossed over into the eastbound lane to pass a slower vehicle traveling just ahead.

As the Chevrolet was returning to the westbound travel lane, the driver veered too far to the right and then overcorrected to the left, which sent the pickup truck careening off the left shoulder where it rolled multiple times and landed upside down several yards from the roadway, the sergeant said. ... One of the occupants who was wearing a seat belt remained in the vehicle as it rolled, the sergeant said, while three of the occupants who were not properly restrained were thrown from the truck.

Beautiful country, especially with some of the rainfall they've gotten.
