Abilene Christian University accreditation on warning

Abilene Christian University's accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges remains on warning after the association's annual meeting earlier this week.

Originally placed on warning in June, university officials confirmed the status remains in effect after receiving verbal notice from the accreditation commission.

Additional review is expected to be provided early next year, a school spokeswoman said in an email.

ACU's warning put the entire university's accreditation in jeopardy after it was cited for understaffing its Dallas graduate school campus, which offers online programs.

"ACU has continued to hire full-time faculty to teach in those programs and has modified the hiring plan to more sufficiently keep pace with the growth in the number of students," the email said. "The university submitted a monitoring report to SACSCOC in September noting the new faculty and the acceleration of the faculty hiring plan to keep pace with the growth."
