Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is getting his first Democratic opponent for re-election.
Attorney Justin Nelson is entering the race to be the state's top lawyer with just over a month until the candidate filing deadline for the 2018 primaries.
"Justice is for all. Nobody is above the law," Nelson said in a news release. "Texans can do better than our indicted Attorney General who is charged with criminal fraud."

Susman is one of the top firms in the state for litigation. I do not know Justin (he is in Susman's Ausint office) but that firm is a strong firm

OP
Of the major statewide offices this one seems like the easiest to flip into a win for Democrats.

Democrats need to produce commercials of Paxton inside the courtroom as a defender rather than as the lead prosecutor for Texas. I think that there will also be some Republicans upset with him for the fraud that he perpetrated on Republican state representative Byron Cook.

Declaring that Texans can do better than our indicted attorney general who is charged with criminal fraud, Austin attorney Justin Nelson Wednesday announced his intention to seek the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican incumbent Ken Paxton in 2018.
Justice is for all, Nelson said in a statement released Wednesday. Nobody is above the law.
Nelson is the first candidate to announce plans to challenge Paxton, who is under indictment for securities fraud.
Paxtons trial has been delayed three times. A new trial date has yet to be set, probably for sometime early next year. The primary is in March, and if Paxton is the nominee, there is no way under state election law to remove his name from the ballot, except under very specific circumstances, even if he is convicted and asked to be removed from the ballot, unless he were to waive any appeal.
