Sen. Ted Cruz hears Border Patrol agents' concerns as protests erupt outside meeting

Shouting matches erupted between protesters and supporters of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz outside a town hall meeting with U.S. Border Patrol agents Thursday evening in El Paso.

On Friday morning, the senator cut short his visit to El Paso due to Hurricane Harvey on the Gulf Coast of Texas.

On Thursday evening, Cruz-R-Texas, heard concerns about hiring, lack of staffing and desolate stations from Border Patrol agents as far away as Tucson and the Big Bend area.

"What you do to keep this country safe, to uphold the rule of law, to protect our communities, matters," Cruz told more than 50 agents in a Border Patrol union meeting hall at 730 E. Yandell Drive near Downtown.
