The trouble is that [the Pope] has been persuaded that climate change is something that is dramatically affecting the planet right now, hes bought in to all this, Gohmert said. Thats wrong. The Pope bought in because there is strong scientific evidence to support climate changes existence and effect.
Gohmert then addressed the marginalization of climate deniers. He is right about that; climate deniers have been marginalized, but its because their reasoning doesnt fall in line with scientific thinking and deduction. Since when does science not allow opposing viewpoints? asked Gohmert. Well, they didnt allow Galileo to make an opposing viewpoint.
Heres just a quick history lesson. The reason why Galileo was opposed and ousted was because his findings were being suppressed by an overly religious state. Galileo used scientific methods to create his hypotheses, and the church-state didnt like it because it threatened the churchs wisdom and power. Galileo was marginalized by power, idiots like Gohmert are marginalized because theyre idiots.

(2,792 posts)1. There is a parallel.
Gohmert represents a change from a geocentric or heliocentric to an egocentric or idiocentric view of the universe.

(2,178 posts)2. Gohmert is too stupid to know he's stupid.
I feel bad for East Texas.

(8,979 posts)3. Well, Galileo and Gohmert both begin with a "G"
There are no other similarities whatsoever. During his time, Galileo was constantly bedeviled by the anti-scientific forces of his time. In today's world, Gohmert as an utterly backwards obstructionist member of Congress happens to be one of those forces.
