Blue Bell expands product recall
Blue Bell Ice Cream of Brenham, Texas, is expanding a product recall after bacteria in some frozen products has been linked to three deaths in Kansas.
On Monday the creamery announced a recall of
three-ounce containers of strawberry, vanilla and chocolate ice cream with tab lids that are sold to specific institutions like hospitals and cafeterias. That's in addition to 10 frozen snacks recalled earlier this month.
"The products that we've recalled, they actually are for institutional sales," said Blue Bell spokeswoman Jenny Vandorf. "So they're not available in the grocery store."
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website, officials found listeria bacteria on March 22 in a three-ounce cup of chocolate ice cream produced in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and served in a hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
