University of Houston suspends Sigma Chi fraternity after hazing allegations
The University of Houston has suspended the Sigma Chi fraternity after "disturbing allegations of hazing within the fraternity," and results of an investigation have been provided to the district attorney's office, President Renu Khator said Tuesday.
"I am shocked, dismayed and deeply disappointed that allegations of this nature have arisen on our campus," Khator said in a statement.
The local chapter was suspended by the national fraternity in January after allegations of "inappropriate pledging activities" at the UH chapter where "a culture inconsistent with our values had taken root," the Sigma Chi International Fraternity said in a statement Tuesday.

UH is placing five students accused of the hazing on immediate suspension. Pending further investigation and due process, if the allegations prove to be true, those responsible will be subject to immediate disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion, the university's announcement said.
