Abbott's pathological tweet is insulting
http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/20150225-gov.-abbott-should-have-stifled-snappy-tweet-on-american-sniper-trial.ece
The above is a Tweet that Gov.Greg Abbott (or his handlers) put out so he could catch the wave of jubilation some people felt after American Sniper trial conviction.
I was disappointed. Abbott's shout-out didn't become the man or the office. It has a celebratory tone inappropriate for an official whose clemency authority makes him part of the justice system. It's not as bad, but the Abbott Tweet reminds me of Rick Perry's infamous remark about the executed Cameron Todd Willingham being a "monster."
Abbott, a one-time judge, should know better. I wish he had been more judicial last night. If he wanted to be part of the social media "conversation," better he had said something about respecting the jury's decision in a really tough trial. It wouldn't have been snappy, but I doubt most people value an officeholder on the basis of how hip their tweets are.
The sniper trial was a emotional wringer for lots of people. It dealt with tragic loss of life for reasons that may not have been as clear cut as Abbott might suggest. He wasn't in the courtroom and didn't hear the testimony, but he nevertheless seems to conclude that defendant Eddie Ray Routh's insanity defense was a sham.
