(1,393 posts)...just keeping Texas in their column will be expensive for Republicans and force them to shift resources away from other battleground states. And I get the feeling they are going to throw everything they have at the state, for them it's the whole ball game. Expect them to go after Wendy Davis with their longest knives, it'll make Dukakis '88 or Ann Richards '94 look like amateur hour. Just hope the national Ds and others can get us enough money to fend off their slime machine in the most important races.

(1,393 posts)I could be wrong, but still remember well the number Rove and Co. did on Ann Richards back in '94. I fear the subtly wicked tactics that Rove pulled for W back in '94, '00 (even against McCain) and '04.

(144,005 posts)I agree that this race will get nastier. Abbott and the tea party will not be able to show any class. Greg is a nasty person. I disagree in one respect. Greg is no Rove. Rove is smart in his tactics while Greg is just mean. So far Greg is running a campaign that is geared solely to older white voters. I have been unable to find even one nonwhite face in Greg's commercials.

(204 posts)The state's top GOP hopefuls recently met to discuss the changing political landscape in Texas and how they might keep their iron grip on the state's highest offices. At the heart of their concern is that Texas' traditional non-voting populations are starting to wake up thanks to a resurgent state Democratic Party led by their flagship gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis and the on the ground organizers of Battleground Texas.
Dallas County is ground zero for what the GOP in Texas fears. The state's 2nd most populated county was solid red prior to 2004, and by 2010 Democrats won their first post-Reagan majority on the County Commissioners' Court and they still maintain every county-wide seat on the ballot...
